9:49 / 50555 viewFROM THE ALBUM 30 EXITOS INSUPERABLES (COURTESY OF WIKIPEDIA.ORG): Don Rafael Martos Sánchez (born May 5, 1943), Ilustrísimo Señor de la Orden de Cisneros, Comendador de Isabel La Católica, often simply referred to as Raphael, is a worldwide acclamed Spanish singer and television, film and theatre actor. A pioneer of modern Spanish music, he is considered a major influence in having opened the door and paving the way to the flood of Spanish singers that follow. His wide-range voice, added to his quality as showman, has entertained and engaged people worldwide for more than four decades. Raphael was born Rafael Miguel Martos Sánchez in Linares, province of Jaén (Spain), on May 5, 1943. As a consequence, he is nicknamed both "El Ruiseñor de Linares" ("Nightingale of Linares") and "El Divo de Linares" ("The Divo from Linares"). His family moved to Madrid when he was nine months old, and he started singing when he was just three years-old. He joined a children's choir at age four. When he was 9, he was recognized as the best child voice in Europe at a contest in Salzburg, Austria. Raphael began his professional career by signing with the Dutch record label Philips. To distinguish himself, he adopted the "ph" of the company's name and christened himself 'Raphael'. His first singles were "Te voy a contar mi vida" and "A pesar de todo", among others. Raphael adopted his own peculiar singing style from the beginning; he is known for acting each one of his songs while on stage ...

11:39 / 183585 viewRaphael Saadiq was nominated for his 2008 solo album The Way I See It. The album featured an eclectic group of collaborators, such as Joss Stone, Stevie Wonder and Jay-Z. For his Tiny Desk Concert, Saadiq brought a remarkable accompanist in guitarist Rob Bacon. The two had just gotten off a plane, but in their impeccably tailored suits and their grand smiles, they looked fresh and played an inspired acoustic performance. As you watch, keep an eye on Saadiq's guitar work: You'll see how his years as a bassist influences many of his licks on his Taylor acoustic. Saadiq played: "Love That Girl" "100 Yard Dash" "Sure Hope You Mean It"

38:29 / 54748 viewRaphael Saadiq is a standard bearer for what folks call "old school" music, a contemporary artist continuing a time-honored tradition that goes back to the '60s and '70s. From his early days as a member of the groundbreaking '80s group Tony! Toni! Toné! through his work as an award-winning producer of such artists as Joss Stone, The Roots, Snoop Dogg, John Legend among many others and his own solo albums, the multi-talented Raphael Saadiq has kept the faith. His latest album, The Way I See It, available in a collector's edition box set of 7"45 RPM singles as well as on traditional CD, represents the finest example to date of Raphael's downtown sound, a masterful blend of old and new school sensibilities on tracks featuring artists such as Joss Stone, Stevie Wonder, and Jay-Z. www.raphaelsaadiq.com This event took place on March 4, 2009, as part of the Musicians@Google series.

5:4 / 143007 viewAs one of the exemplars of modern Soul and R&B, ask anyone and they'll tell you Raphael Saadiq is amongst those most renowned and respected. A figurehead with credentials stretching as far back as we at PinBoard remember in our bibs; weather handed down Toni Tony Tone cassettes, bumping Ummah (Saadiq, Tip & Jay Dee) produced joints, incessantly reloading Lucy Pearl and Instant Vintage during teens, relinquishing virginity to the iconic co-written/produced 'Untitled' record for D'Angelo, or most recently as grown-up music professionals over the last three years lending exposure to this gentleman's revivalist phase . You could say, we've always had a special relationship with Ray Ray. We're now truly honoured to have Mr. Saadiq armed with a burning, bluesy bass guitar perform his latest work especially for us. A searing gesture to love and responsibility, 'Good Man' is of our favourite songs of 2011 so far. You can also catch him on at Shepherds Bush Empire on the 28th April. New album Stone Rolling is out now in the UK and May 10th in the US. "The best guitarist I've heard in years. He has overcome the technical limitations of the instrument, and his music comes unhindered from his soul, straight to the hearts of we who admire him." — Paco de Lucia "If the acoustic guitar has once again established itself as the leading instrumental voice of modern Brazilian music, much of the credit can be given to Raphael Rabello..." — Mark Holston, Guitar Player Magazine "Raphael Rabello was simply one of the greatest guitarists who has ever lived. His level of insight into the potential of the instrument was matched only by the great Paco de Lucia. He was 'the' Brazilian guitarist of our time, in my opinion. His loss at such a young age is an incredible loss, not only for what he already did, but for what he could have done." — Pat Metheny Textos tirados de: pt.wikipedia.org
