Jorge Alberto Negrete Moreno (November 30, 1911 December 5, 1953) is considered one of the most popular Mexican singers and actors of all time. Negrete was born in Guanajuato where he was raised together with his brother and three sisters: David, Consuelo, Emilia and Teresa, and also lived in San Luis Potosí. He graduated with the rank of sub-lieutenant from El Colegio Militar, Mexico's military academy. Handsome, with a very strong will and a trained, fascinating voice, he is still a top idol in Mexico, Spain and Latin America, more than 50 years after his death. His recording of "México Lindo y Querido" ("Beautiful and Beloved México"), his country's unofficial anthem, is the best known recording of the song. His career is often compared to that of Pedro Infante, the best known and most popular Mexican actor of the time. The public rivalry didn't carry over to their private lives, as they were close friends until Negrete's death. He married twice, to famous actresses with whom he shared credits: Elisa Christy (with whom he had a daughter, Diana Negrete) and María Félix. He also lived with his frequent co-star, for more than ten years. Gloria Marín co-starred in 10 out of his 44 films. He started his career singing on the radio in 1931 in Mexico City singing operatic parts. In 1936 he signed with NBC for a television program with Cuban and Mexican musicians. He returned to Mexico in 1937 to act in the film "La Madrina Del Diablo" ("The Devil's Godmother") and because of ...

Jorge Negrete sings a popular song from GUADALAJARA with the support of Trio Calaveras. They acted in many films together. Can anybody tell us who is the girl singing with him. We were told that she is Gloria Marin. Jorge Alberto Negrete Moreno, was born November 30, 1911 in Guanajuato, Mexico and died at the early age of 42 in Los Angeles, California. He was very active between 1932 until he died of Hepatitis in December 5, 1953. Handsome, with a very strong will and a trained, fascinating voice, he is still a top idol in Mexico, Spain and Latin America, more than 50 years after his death. His best recording was “Mexico Lindo y Querido.” He and Pedro Infante were close friends. His marriage with Maria Felix was explosive so he lived more time with his beloved Gloria Marin. Together they co-starred many films. He started singing as a tenor in some operas, but, he then changed to the more popular RANCHERAS. He made about 44 films. His most famous film is probably “El Penon de las Animas.” with Maria Felix. But, I prefer "¡Ay Jalisco, No Te Rajes!" We offer this video clip for the enjoyment of future generations.

    Besos (Jorge Negrete)

Jorge Negrete is most remembered as the arrogant & macho singer of Rancheras decked out in his fine Charro suits. But like other early superstars of Mexican recorded media, Jorge was a product of the Conservatorio Nacional's Bel Canto maestro Jorge Pierson. Like his peers (Jose Mojica, Pedro Vargas, Dr. Ortiz Tirado etc.,) he aspired to song Opera & other forms of "serious music". But, the US and Europe were largely closed markets for the avalanche of Mexican opera talent, and the Mexican market was saturated. So he had to find other outlets to exist. In the mid 1930s he tried his luck in New York (where he was offered the back up tenor job at the Met which he rejected)... and took up singing Boleros. He partnered up with another Mexican tenor Ramon Armengod and sang for CBS Radio under the moniker of "The Mexican Cabelleros". In 1937, Black Swan signed Jorge to his first recording contract, and "The Mexican Cabelleros" recorded Besos composed by big band maestro Luis Arcaraz. Translation: Woman bring your mouth next to mine, Bring your soul, next to my soul. A kiss from your lips, provoke me. For one of your kisses, I would die. Woman bring your mouth next to mine, My heart is opressed by your pleasure ...
