Blondie: Rapture (live 2010 NYC; sick!)

    7:55 / 6317 view
www.blondie.net Blondie is a band, not a person! What a privilege it is to see Blondie; they are Hall of Famers amongst Hall of Famers; Mount Rushmore-status in rock 'n' roll histoire! Blondie came and conquered New York City again; played a highly energetic concert on 31 August 2010. The band fed off of the crowd's energy and love, and the crowd in turn fed off of the band's energy and joy in playing this gig. Even though other shows on this tour have been booked in significantly larger venues this tour's only New York City show was intentionally booked into an intimate venue in the Times Square district. "Rapture" was released in January 1981 and reached #1 on both the USA and UK pop charts. It was the second and final single to be released from the band's 1980 album Autoamerican, the first being "The Tide Is High", which had also topped the charts in the US and UK. The B-side was "Walk Like Me", also from Autoamerican. "Rapture" was the first #1 hit in the US to feature rapping, and was written by Deborah Harry & Chris Stein. Clem Burke is probably one of the four or five greatest drummers in rock 'n' roll history, a perpetual motion machine, a force of nature; what a treat to see him up close! He is the engine that powers Blondie. www.blondie.net

Follow me on Twitter! twitter.com This was actually for the chart week ending 1/31/81, but AT10 used a Sunday date for the shows, in this case 2/1/81 was used. This was done because many TV stations would air this on sundays just like Casey's show "American Top 40". Now on to the Countdown! At # 1 that week was Blondie with "The Tide Is High" www.youtube.com which was a remake of the Jamaican group "The Paragons" song from 1967 www.youtube.com never saw any chart action in the US Blondie was no stranger to the # 1 position, this was the group's 3rd single to reach the peak position in the US, They would once again hit the Top Spot 1 month later with "Rapture" www.youtube.com in total Blondie racked up 4 # 1 singles in the US in just over 2 years, 10 Top 100 hits, and 8 of those were Top 40 smashes. The singles were: Heart Of Glass (# 1) 1979 www.youtube.com One Way Or Another (# 24) 1979 www.youtube.com Dreaming (# 27) 1979 www.youtube.com The Hardest Part (# 84) 1980 www.youtube.com Call Me (# 1) 1980 www.youtube.com Atomic (# 39) 1980 www.youtube.com The Tide Is High (# 1) 1981 +see above Rapture (# 1) 1981 +see Above Island Of Lost Souls (# 37) 1982 www.youtube.com And 16 years later they had another Top 100 hit with "Maria" (# 82) 1999 www.youtube.com Blondie's "Debbie Harry" also charted 4 times as a solo artist.None made the Top 40 in the US Her singles were: Backfired ( # 43) 1981 www.youtube.com The Jam Was Moving (# 82) 1981 www.youtube.com French Kissin (# 57 ...

Now on Twitter! Follow! twitter.com Ahh only in 1981 could there be 2 # 1 songs by country artists. The first was on 2/21/81, where Dolly Parton achieved her greatest solo pop hit with "9 to 5" www.youtube.com , she did reach the summit again 2 years later as a duet with Kenny Rogers on "Islands In The Stream" www.youtube.com Dolly's first and only other top 10 hit was "Here You Come Again" www.youtube.com , a # 3 hit in 1978. But Dolly's all time biggest hit is "I Will Always Love You" www.youtube.com , a # 1 country song in 1974 and 1982 www.youtube.com song's claim to fame is Whitney Houston's version www.youtube.com a monster # 1 song for 14 weeks in 1992-1993. Her "9 To 5 " was followed by another country artist with his only # 1 hit "I Love A Rainy Night" www.youtube.com , by Eddie Rabbit on 2/28/81 for 2 weeks.Only to be replaced by Dolly again, which turns out to be this very show! Eddie, believe it or not, was born in Brooklyn, New York on 11/27/41, he was raised in East Orange, New Jersey, not exactly country music territory. He died on 5/7/98 at 56 of cancer. Mother is a new studio track by Blondie taken from their fourthcoming release, Panic Of Girls, which will be out on July 4, 2011. Mother will also be released as a single on May 23, 2011. This is a video I made useing some classic Blondie video clips mixed with new live footage of the band playing Mother in 2010 at A&E's Private Sessions. Sorry for the green blips, I had to convert some of the footage and sometimes that can make glitches in the footage. Please enjoy anyway. I do not own any rights to this song or the video footage. If any copyright holder has a problem with this video please send me a message and I will take it down. I do not mean any harm with this. Its simply for Blondie fans to enjoy and help spread the word about Blondie's new studio album, Panic Of Girls. Lyrics by Deborah Harry: In a patent leather life I was foolish, you were right All night rookies pass the time Looking for somewhere to go Shiny boots all up their thighs Chorus: Mother - in the night Calling you, calling you Mother - in the night Where are you, where are you now Mother's left the building We're the missing children Mother - in the night Where are you, where are you tonight Mother may I stay all night Lift your curfew like the light Collars turned against the cold Looking for someone to hold In your patent leather night Chorus Now that I can't remember I need you more then ever Why can't we be together - always Chorus

    4:31 / 722 view
This was recorded live at Bond's International Casino on May 11, 1981 at a benefit show for Anya Phillips. The band featured Debbie Harry, Chris Stein and Jimmy Destri from Blondie, Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson from Chic, and Walter Stedding. They performed three songs, Rapture (the earliest public performance of this song), The Jam Was Moving from Debbie Harry's upcoming solo album, and finally a medley of Good Times and Rapper's Delight. For the final song the band was joined on stage by rappers Fab Five Freddy and the Funky Four Plus One, who engaged in a rap jam. This show occurred a few weeks before the famous series of Clash shows at Bonds which featured rap/hip hop acts, and is likely the first rock/rap fusion ever recorded. This is an audience recording, but the quality is fairly decent.

It reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, number 22 on the UK singles charts and number 7 in the Netherlands. Overview According to band member Robby Krieger, it was inspired by the song "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend." The song is played in the E Dorian mode, and incorporates real sound effects of thunder and rain, along with Ray Manzarek's Fender Rhodes electric piano playing, which emulates the sound of rain. The song was recorded at the Doors Workshop in December 1970 with the assistance of Bruce Botnick, their longtime engineer, who was co-producing the recording sessions. Jim Morrison recorded his main vocals and then whispered the lyrics over them to create the echo effect. This was the last song recorded by the members of The Doors, according to Manzarek, as well as Morrison's last recorded song to be released. The single was released in 1971, shortly before Morrison's death, entering the Hot 100 on 3 July 1971 ...

"LaRCS" stands for "Live and Record Combined Stereo", which means that on the left you can hear a live performance, while on the right the clip version. Regarding this video, the background music is the same. On the right you can see and hear the Blondie's/Debbie Harry's grand classic "Rapture" (from 1981), while on the left a minute tribute from Kylie Minogue and Justin Timberlake at the Brit Awards (2003). I'm very pleased that Kylie performed this song, because it is one of my all time favourites :-)! (Please note the similarity of the hair styles and the dresses of Debbie and Kylie. This can't be accidental!) This performance was an excellent precursor for the Ultimate Icon Award, that was presented to Debbie this year (3rd November, 2011) by Kylie!!! www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com
